zeal & ardor

In support of Black History Month, we are taking a look at Zeal & Ardor. Led by Manuel Gagneux, who was born to an African-American mother and a Swiss father, the band draws inspiration from both assets and does it well. Some sections follow tightly to European Black Metal, while other sections explore into the sounds of the US southeastern regions. With songs that teeter on the subjects of oppression, hardship, and mental health issues, and filmography that adds to the ambiance; Zeal & Ardor are masterful at making a statement.
